Activities Out of School
Zoe Harris, Activity Development Support Manager for Tempus Leisure came into our school on Thursday to explain to the children what a triathlon entails and how children can be rewarded for taking part in activities outside of school hours through the Children’s University scheme.
Cornwall Mini Triathlon Series
Bookings are now being taken for all four events this year and can be done by following the link on the leaflet that you should have received. The first event is being held locally in Bodmin, so is a great chance for your child to have a go without having to travel too far. All children who are 8 years old and above by 31/12/16 can take part, so yes if your child is currently 7 years old, they can still take part as long as they turn 8 by the end of the year. It would be great to get at least 8 children from our school take part at one or more of the events!
Zoe has said she will come back into school to present any medals to pupils who take part and she thinks that if you take part in the first event, you will definitely want to complete the series!
Children’s University
If your child attends any activities outside of school hours, whether it is an after school club, swimming lessons, Beavers, Cubs, Brownies, football training/matches and holiday activities as examples, then a Children’s University ‘Passport To Learning’ is for your child!
They are available from all Tempus Leisure centres - St Ives Leisure Centre being the closest. Membership costs £5 which includes your child’s first passport. Each time your child takes part in an extra-curricular activity they can have their passport signed off. After so many hours your child will receive a certificate starting at 30 hours right through until you reach 1,000 hours. The scheme is open to all children from 5 years and activities can be marked off right up until they reach 15. Cornwall Children’s University hold 3 graduations per year at a local university, where children get to wear gowns that are loaned to them to take part in their graduation. All certificates and graduations are FREE. There are limited numbers of passports available so next time you are at the leisure centre, don’t forget to sign up so your child receives the recognition they deserve for committing additional time to learning.
